About the design made with the wb002 antenna

We were using Dw1000 and Taiyo Yuden AH086M555003-T antenna for our Rtls system. We made an initial design with the WB002 antenna to increase our coverage area, but we could not get the results we wanted.For antenna tests, we got good results when we attached the antenna of the EWK1000 module (WB002) to our design with the sma connector.

The pcb we designed is 4 layer and we used the stack-up values given by Decawave. We set the antenna line impedance to be 50 Ohm. We used the ground in the inlayer as the Reference Ground. Could this be the reason for the poor performance?

As another parameter, we shortened the transmission line and ground section of the antenna to fit the design inside the box.Could this be the reason for the poor performance?

Can you give more details about the “not get the results we wanted.” tell us about what problems you get with the design of the Left.

Also did you do tests for TWR or TDoA?
Did you calibrate the Antenna delay?

Thank you for your valuable answer.We conducted tests on the detection of corner turns indoors. I tried to explain the tests we performed and the results we obtained in the visual in the lower section.

Test parameters;
For the tests, a total of 4 pcb, including 2 anchors and 2 tags, were prepared at the same time using a typesetting machine.The anchor and tag feeds used in the tests are provided with a battery. Voltage levels of all batteries used are 4.1V.

In the attached image, the position where the tag sent the last data in the anchor and tag test called number “1” is shown.The distance between the position where the tag was sent to the last position and the Anchor was observed as 17 meters.Uwb communication cannot be provided after the last position where tag number 1 is located.When the “TrioMobil Design” board is outside the designated area, Anchor cannot receive the first step “start msg” message.

When we performed the same test using the wb002 antenna, which is called the number “2”, we were able to position without any problems even from the farthest location indoors.The distance between the position where the tag was sent to the last position and the Anchor was observed as 26 meters.


We only carried out our tests with TWR.
Antenna delay calibration was performed.
